Sarain Overview

Sarain FRH dates back to 1914. This is about 13kms from ChopaI. The rest house is surrounded by extensive woods of pine, deodar and fir. Sarain is one of the starting points of the trek up to the peak of Choordhar. The peak is crowned by a temple dedicated to Chooreshwar Mahadev, and to Shirgul Maharaj. Shirgul is a deity who is widely worshipped in Chopal and in district Sirmaur. The most popular legend about Shirgul is of the time he went to Delhi with hundreds of his followers. The people of Delhi were wonderstruck with his divine powers. A king of Delhi used leather shackles to curtail the powers of Shirgul and had him imprisoned. Then the king Gogapeer of Bangardesh, took the help of Mata Bhangyani and they were able to rescue Shirgul. The shrine of Bijjat Maharaj, a local manifestation of Bhagwan Shiva, where he appears as a bolt of lightning, is also accessible from this rest house.

Day 2 - Sunrise at Triund and back to Dharamkot!

  • Wake early to enjoy the sunrise. The other thing that you can’t miss on this memorable trek along with the sunset, is the sunrise. The view of the sky rapidly changing colors with the rising sun is more than just beautiful - it takes your breath away.
  • After enjoying the sunrise, you can relax for a while, have breakfast, and prepare for the day’s upcoming trek.
  • This day, we’ll have to start really early since we’ll be retracing the steps that we covered in the past day. However, since the way is mostly a descent, it is easier even for first-timers, and faster.
  • We’ll keep the pace comfortable and enjoy the enthralling trek back.
  • In the evening, we reach Dharamkot, where this journey ends.
