Bir FRH was built in 1944-45 with a verandah and deep eaves. This is at a distance of about 6kms from National Highway No. 154. Bir and Billing are often spoken of in a single breath and these two places have become internationally famous for paragliding. Billing is the takeoff site and is at an altitude of 2,290m while Bir, the landing site, is at 1,400m; the road distance between the two is 14kms. The village of Bir has undulating fields and tea gardens; a Buddhist monastery is also located here. Billing is also the starting point for the trek to remote Bara Bangal.
